I wanted to share this heart filled blog post based off my latest podcast! It's a heart-to-heart conversation and some golden nuggets for your brand-building journey, even if you're not ready to dive into hiring a brand bestie like yours truly. I want to share some ways you can start organizing your thoughts and ideas to show up, refresh or start building your brand!
The title of my latest podcast episode, "The Adventure Starts Within," stems from a serendipitous encounter with a fortune cookie message: "Adventure is not outside, it is within." It struck a chord, prompting introspection on what adventure truly means. Adventure isn't just about jet-setting or extravagant road trips; it's about discovering yourself, your purpose, and how you can make a difference in the world. It's about reframing life's challenges into opportunities for growth and transformation. As someone deeply rooted in branding and marketing, I've learned invaluable lessons from my journey. From my advertising and marketing background to being a part of the rebranding process of businesses like Inherit Clothing Company, each experience has shaped my understanding of the heart and soul behind branding.
Here are some key takeaways to infuse heart into your brand:
1. Storytelling with Soul: Share the journey behind your brand, your values, and the real people driving it. Authentic storytelling creates powerful connections with your audience. An easy way to start, is to show up in your instagram stories. The story only lasts 24 hours and you then have the ability to save the story and create a future reel out of it, and make it a highlight on your page! Stories on Instagram seem to be less intimidating and a great place to start.
2. Community Engagement: Foster a sense of community by engaging with your audience, encouraging conversations, and actively listening to their needs. With every post, ask a questions. Create a poll. Seek advice. Make sure to answer your people when they engaged, build trust!
3. Purpose-Driven Initiatives: Identify causes aligned with your brand values and take action. Making a positive impact resonates deeply with your audience. Say you have a knitting business and your niche is baby blankets, start a monthly initiative with your local hospital or midwife around creating a 'welcome baby kit' to one new mama they gift it to. It shows your heart, mission and is purposeful.
4. Creativity in Communication: Stand out by getting creative in your communication. Quirky campaigns or unique content formats capture attention and reflect your brand's personality. Do you LOVE karaoke? Start a Karaoke Wednesday where you sing a tip or trick to serve your audience. Weird? Sure. Noticeable? Probably.
5. Embracing Vulnerability: Show the human side of your brand by sharing challenges, setbacks, and lessons learned. Vulnerability builds trust and strengthens connections. Show up messy. You don't always have to share the best parts, share the hard parts too. As a photographer, I shared a not-so-great photo session that was completely my fault...but how I shared it and handled it would hopefully help someone make the choice to still go with me knowing I would make it right.
6. Collaboration over Competition: Look for opportunities to collaborate with like-minded brands and creators. Collaboration fosters community and opens doors to new audiences. Are you opening a new boutique? Reach out to your favorite baker and see if you can hire them to create some custom cupcakes, cookies or macrons for your big night! Support small businesses and keep the collaborations going!
7. Human Connections: Prioritize meaningful connections beyond transactions. Empathy, kindness, and respect are the building blocks of lasting relationships. Say you noticed one of your clients grandparents passed away. Send a card, let them know you are thinking of them. There is no blurred lines in business when it comes to empathy and human connection.
8. Adaptability: Evolve while staying true to your brand's voice and tone. Embrace feedback, analyze market trends, and adapt your strategy accordingly. Want to use that trending audio for a fun reel, but the song have some nasty lyrics? Find the instrumental version, or find a different audio that speaks more your language but still fits the vibe!
9. Celebrating Milestones: Take time to celebrate your wins, big or small, with your audience. Sharing milestones fosters a sense of shared achievement and gratitude. YOUR people want you to WIN. Share the goodness that has come to you from THEIR love & support! Thank them, with out them you wouldn't be here!
